Mark Paoletta served as a lawyer in the White House Counsel’s Office in the George H. W. Bush Administration, where he played a key role in the confirmation of Justice Clarence Thomas.  Mark is a co-editor with Michael Pack of the recently published book, Created Equal: Clarence Thomas in His Own Words.  The book is a follow-on to the critically acclaimed documentary of the same name and based on the 25 hours of interviews that Michael Pack conducted with Justice Thomas for the film.

Mark has written extensively on Justice Thomas’ confirmation and tenure on the Supreme Court, and has been published in the Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Newsweek, The Washington Examiner, FoxNews, National Review, and The Federalist.  He has also created a website to honor our Nation’s greatest jurist, www.justicethomas.com.

Mark most recently served as General Counsel for the Office of Management & Budget in the Executive Office of the President during the Trump Administration.  As General Counsel to what many consider the most powerful agency in Washington, D.C., Mark worked daily with agencies across the federal government to ensure programs were implemented consistent with the President’s policies. Mark also served during the first year of the Administration as Counsel to Vice President Pence. During his time in the Administration, he worked on the confirmations of Justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh and several other nominees.

Mark previously served for a decade as Chief Counsel for Oversight & Investigations for the Energy & Commerce Committee in the U. S. House of Representatives, where he managed nearly 200 investigative hearings. He is currently a partner at the law firm of Schaerr Jaffe LLP in Washington, D.C. and also serves as a Senior Fellow at the Center For Renewing America.

Mark received his B.A. from Duquesne University and his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center.  He resides in Falls Church, Virginia with his wife, Tricia, and is the proud father of four grown children.
