A former Planned Parenthood Director, Ms. Johnson tells all about her conversion from pro-choice to pro-life. Her story is one that according to Ms. Johnson reflect that of thousands of Planned Parenthood employees – they firmly believe that they are serving women. For Abby however, this service came to an abrupt end when she was asked to assist with and ultrasound abortion because of a staff shortage.
She describes her experience thus “For the briefest moment, the baby looked as if it were being wrung like a dishcloth, twirled and squeezed. And then it crumpled and began disappearing into the cannula before my eyes …. The last thing I saw was the tiny, perfectly formed backbone sucked into the tube, and then it was gone”. Abby was so profoundly effected by this that she almost immediately quit her job. This however was a decision that had been slowly creeping up on her as she was increasingly having problems reconciling her work with her core beliefs that kept nagging at her and causing an alienation from her relationship with God.
Abby gives much of the credit to her conversion and final decision to the 40 Days for Life campaign, that she says showed her nothing but the love of God, as they prayerfully prayed for and counseled people in the abortion industry. She has recently revealed that she herself has had two abortions, which weighs on her heart as she now understands the destructive process of abortion. She adds that as disturbing as this is for her, she finds that the fact she coerced thousands of women to abort, is equally as burdensome. After quitting her job, Abby had intended to spend all her time helping pregnancy centers to counter the impact of Planned Parenthood. However she was pushed into the spotlight of public notice when Planned Parenthood tried to silence her by obtaining a court order to stop her from discussing her work within the abortion industry. This action pushed Ms. Johnson into the limelight as she was forced to defend herself. You will hear Ms Johnson tell her and she will talk about her conversion from supporting contraception as a means of birth control to rejecting this method as she came to fully understand God’s intention for His people.
